Christopher Nigrelli, professor of music, joined Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø's faculty in 1997. He teaches music history and fine arts courses, as well as applied brass lessons on trombone, euphonium and tuba. He has worked with the jazz ensemble, brass ensemble, pep bands, concert band, wind ensemble and wind symphony. Nigrelli has also served as music director for 13 musicals at Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø, most recently “Cabaretâ€� and “Peter and the Starcatcher.â€�
He currently serves as coordinator of the music program and assistant dean for the College of Fine Arts and Communication.
Nigrelli is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Western Piedmont Symphony and previously served on the Board of Directors for the LHS Foundation, the governing body for the Harper School of Performing Arts, based in Lenoir, North Carolina. He was a member-at-large of the Board of Directors at the inception of the North Carolina Bandmasters Jazz Section.
Nigrelli is the co-founder of the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Summer Youth Music Band and Choir Camps and served as its director for 10 years.
As a trombonist, he served as principal trombone in the Western Piedmont Symphony for 19 years. He is a past winner of the International Trombone Association's Robert Marsteller Solo Competition and occasionally freelances throughout the Carolinas.
